avsvCell phone company’s such as Verizon and AT&T are in the works to create a faster network. Verizion has already been working on this with claims that it will be 30 to 50 times faster than the current LTE speeds. Now AT&T are jumping in to increase there network speeds as well. They are trying to one up Verizon though with the claim that their 5G network will be 10 to 100 times faster than current LTE speeds. AT&T released information about their plans on their site (click HERE to read the full press release) and gave an example of just how fast they believe it will be.

“Customers will see speeds measured in gigabits per second, not megabits. For reference, at one gigabit per second, you can download a TV show in less than 3 seconds.”

Don’t get too excited though. It does not look like this will be coming to your cell phone anytime soon. You also have to figure that cell phone makers will have to develop phones capable of receiving those kind of speeds. AT&T says they will be testing there 5G network in Texas near the end of 2016. The company still have regulation and standards to abide by and say that the first phase will not be complete till 2018 and that means it may not be available to everyone until around 2020. It may seem like a long time away but hopefully in the next 4 years or less we will be able to see download speeds of 1GB on our cell phones and even see our home internet providers up their game with faster speeds as well.

How fast is your cell phone network? Run a speed test from your phone at SpeedTest.net and comment with your network speed. Mine is usually in the 20Mbs speeds for download and 5 or 10Mbs for upload. Unless I find that magical sweet spot in town and get like 50 or 60Mbs download speeds.
