MasterCard will be testing a way to verify your online purchase by taking a selfie. MasterCard will start testing this in the UK and then 14 other country’s in the summer. Here’s how this will work. You would download their app to your smart phone and then register a selfie that links to your account as a password. This would only be used for online shopping on your phone and not an awkward moment in the grocery store where you would need to take a selfie at the register to confirm your purchase. At first I thought this could be like I’ve seen with some stuff that use your picture as a password, where it also wourks to just hold up a picture of the person to the camera and it unlocks. MasterCards system will require you to blink while taking the selfie to try and ensure it is actually you and not just a picture. Check out this video below from USA Today for some more info.
